My English

In this era of globalization, free trade between the countries is increasingly widespread and science and technology are increasingly developed, therefore communication becomes an important thing. How can we communicate with foreigners who open jobs in our country? How can we adjust the development of a modern era? The answer is that we must be able to master English, why is that? Because English is a language that has been defined as an international language and is a bridge of communication between the countries.

I think English is very important in our lives and we can practice it as a second language after our mother tongue. It is not intended to not nationalism but mastering English is very important in this modern era, both for education and for work. In this modern era, we are required not only to be highly educated but also to have language skills, one of which is English. I have learned English since I was in elementary school, so I am familiar with this language, it's just that I don't use it for everyday use, so the practice of speaking my English is still very basic. Starting from elementary school I was taught English for single words such as nouns, adjectives, and verbs. Actually, I've been taught English since kindergarten and I was taught to spell numbers and letters in English. Then during middle school, my knowledge of English is increased and  I was taught how to use these words and how to compose sentences in English, as well as in high school I was taught more profound things about English.

Right now I want to explore this language more because I feel my English language skills are still lacking. Actually, my English language skills are not too bad but sometimes what I want to convey feels difficult because I am not confident, whether it's nervous, afraid of being wrong, or indeed forgetting. I still want to develop my English skills because I realize that learning and mastering this language is very necessary to be able to communicate, continue school and find work.

Analysis of Patriarchy, Feminism, and Gender in The Short Story “The Steel Brassiere” by Iris Sheila G. Crisostomo

Patriarchy A patriarchy, from the ancient Greek  patriarches , was a society where power was held by and passed down through the elder males. When modern historians and sociologists describe a "patriarchal society," they mean that men hold the positions of power and have more privilege: head of the family unit, leaders of social groups, a boss in the workplace, and heads of government. Feminist theorists have expanded the definition of patriarchal society to describe a systemic bias against women. As second-wave feminists examined society during the 1960s, they did observe households headed by women and female leaders. They were, of course, concerned with whether this was uncommon. More significant, however, was the way society  perceived  women in power as an exception to a collectively held view of women's "role" in society. Rather than saying that individual men oppressed women, most feminists saw that oppression of women came from the underlying bias o...

“A Supermarket in California” by Allen Ginsberg

While reading this poem, I was a little confused about the meaning of this poem. However, after reading it several times I find that this poem tells of the poet-Allen Ginsberg's interest in Walt Whitman, an American poet and journalist. Allen Ginsberg wrote "A Supermarket in California" while he was living in Berkeley, California in 1955. This poem is one of Ginsberg's poetry that received the great influence of the American poet, Walt Whitman. Whitman, considered to be the first Native American poet of the nineteenth century, had an influence on Ginsberg's writing. His poetic style experimented on metering and rhythm and avoided the structured lines and verses that were standard forms of poetry at the time. He was an American poet who first introduced freestyle poetry, he also added unusual images and symbols to his poetry, his freedom in poetry earned him the nickname 'father of free verse'. Whitman is known as an eccentric person, both because of his wr...

Oliver Twist Book and Film Review

Oliver Twist is a novel by Charles Dickens, which tells the story of Oliver Twist, an orphan and lived in a workhouse, became a dependent child of the village. The story begins when the workhouse does not treat him well, then he is sold for breaking the rules. For some reason, then he runs away to London, a dangerous place for a nine-year-old child. Oliver is a young boy whose survival sometimes depends on people who will use him badly. In London, then he met a child, maybe his age, who is usually called Dodger, “The Artful Dodger”. Through Dodger, Oliver knew a Jew named Fagin and a bunch of his young pickpockets. All conflicts began to emerge when Oliver joined into a part that might be considered as a small family of Fagin. This novel has actually been filmed repeatedly, about 1933, 1948, 1968 (musical), and the last in 2005. I myself have watched Oliver Twist film directed by Roman Polanski in 2005. For this reason, I will give a review of the novel and film Oliver Twist in 200...
